Explore all the beauty of the South and West of Iceland in four days filled with adventure and excitement
The South and West of Iceland are the most popular areas to visit for travelers coming to Reykjavik, offering an amazing variety of beautiful nature and unforgettable activities. During this 4-day tour you will visit both areas and explore all the best they have to offer.
The first two days of the tour take you to the South of Iceland, driving on the first day along the South Coast where you will visit the famous waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss as well as two less known, but equally beautiful waterfalls called Irafoss and Glufrabui. The final attraction on the first day is a visit to the magical Black Beach of Reynisfjara.
The second day your journey continues all the way to the spectacular Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. Here you can see icebergs floating around in the lagoon, eventually washing up on the shore of the Diamond Beach where they shine like diamonds on black velvet. From here you will drive in a “monster truck” through the ever-changing nature towards a unique Blue Ice Cave where you will spend an hour exploring this amazing creation of nature
On the third day you will head off from Reykjavik towards the West of Iceland. Here you will visit the Snaefellsnes peninsula, often described as Iceland in a miniature form, crowned by the famous and mystical Snaefellsnesjokull glacier. Visits to the seal colony of Ytri Tunga, the Djupalonssandur and Londrangar, hiking around the Arnarstapi and Hellnar and ending up at the famous Kirkjufell mountain will make this a day to remember.
After relaxing overnight in your accommodation in the village of Borgarnes, you will embark on the final part of your adventure, visiting the volcanic crater Grabrok, the waterfalls of Hraunfossar and Barnafossar and journey inside Vidgelmir, the largest lava cave in Iceland. The day ends by visiting the newly built Krauma spa, located next to the Deildartunguhver hot spring, where you can relax and reflect on everything you have seen and done over these four fun-filled days.

Driving from Reykjavik through lovely villages, you will travel along the South Coast with you first stop at the famous Seljalandsfoss. Nesting under the Eyjafjallajokull volcano, this photogenic waterfall is a must see. Walking distance from Seljalandsfoss is the much less known but equally beautiful Gljufrabui waterfall.
Continuing your journey, next you will visit another secret waterfall, Irafoss where you can enjoy the pure nature away from the crowds at the more famous locations.
Next up is the king of the South Coast waterfall, Skogafoss. The amazing raw power of this waterfall when it plummets down 60m is truly a sight to behold.
The last sight visited on this day is the Black Beach of Reynisfjara. Here you can walk on the mystic black sands while admiring seabirds flying overhead and watching the raw power of the Atlantic Ocean as it continues to carve amazing cliff formations like the Reynisdrangar rock pillars.
Your day ends in a cosy accommodation in the South of Iceland
Your journey continues on day 2 by driving to the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. The scene in many movies, this wonderful lagoon has icebergs floating on it that have cracked off Breidamerkjujokull glacier and head along the lagoon towards the sea. Some of them wash up on the beach of the lagoon, aptly named the Diamond Beach as the hunks of ice lie there like diamonds scattered on the black sand.
From here you will climb aboard a “monster truck” and drive for about an hour admiring the beautiful and very varied landscape of the highlands, before reaching your destination, a magical Blue Ice Cave.
These Ice Caves are formed every winter by nature and are truly an unforgettable sight to see. You will have about an hour to explore the Ice Cave and please remember, if you ever should be looking for a great photo opportunity then this is the moment! After returning to the tour bus, you will head off towards Reykjavik where you will spend the night, visiting on the way the Skaftafell National Park and making a stop in the scenic village of Vik.
The Snaefellsnes National Park is one of the wonders of Iceland. Sitting proudly at the top and watching over the area is the famous Snaefellsnesjokull glacier, made world famous in Jules Verne “Journey to the Centre of the Earth”. Locals believe the glacier has a magic power.
During your journey around the peninsula, you will visit the seal colony of Ytri-Tunga where the cute seals can often be seen rolling around on the beach and climbing on rocks, without a care in the world.
You will hike around the villages Arnarstapi and Hellnar and explore the amazing rock formation called Londrangar which sit on the beautiful Djupalonssandur. The Djupalonssandur beach is covered with small unique black stones.
Last but for sure not least on the agenda is a visit up close to the wonderful Kirkjufell mountain. This iconic peak mountain is the most photographed mountain in Iceland - and for a great reason!
At the end of this day you will head to the village of Borgarnes where you will spend the night.
Your last day start by visiting the Grabrok Volcanic Craters, located next to Bifrost which is named after the rainbow bridge that according to the old Nordic Mythology connected Asgard, the world of the gods, to Midgardur, the world of humanity. You can climb in an easy manner to the top of Stora Grabrok, where you can admire a great view of the surrounding area.
From there, you will travel to the great waterfall of Hraunfossar. This wide waterfall, flowing under the Hallmundarhraun lava field on the way from it´s origin at Langjokull glacier before pouring into the Hvita River is a great spectacle. Just a short walking distance away is another beautiful waterfall, Barnafossar – the waterfall of the children. In the past, there was a natural stone bridge over the waterfall, and two children from a nearby farm fell to their deaths crossing the river on the bridge. Afterwards, the grief-stricken mother had the bridge destroyed.
Your next stop is at the Vidgelmir Lave Cave. This is the largest lava cave in Iceland and here you can literally go towards the centre of the Earth! Guiding by local experts, you will receive all safety gear before taking a 1,5 hour journey into the cave where you can watch and admire up close all the amazing lava formations created by the enormous power of the volcanic eruption that created the lava field and the stunning cave below it. Admission fee to the Vidgelmir Lava Cave is included in the tour price.
The last stops on the tour are at Deildartunguhver, the highest-flow hot spring in Europe, and the newly built Krauma Spa located next to the hot spring. Admission to Krauma is included in the tour price. Krauma offers a variety of relaxing warm geothermal baths, a refreshing cold tub and two different saunas for you to enjoy and cap a wonderful four days of exploring Iceland!
