The red and golden hues come from the Westfjords’ lack of volcanic activity, making it a rare and beautiful spot. It’s the perfect place to take a walk and enjoy the scenery.

Next, we head to Fossfjörður Waterfall, tucked away in a fjord. This peaceful cascade is a hidden gem, surrounded by Iceland’s rugged terrain, giving us a chance to pause and appreciate the untouched beauty of the Westfjords.

Afterward, we explore the iconic “A-House”, an abandoned farmhouse and Instagram favorite that captures the region’s history and resilience. Then, the highlight of the day – Dynjandi Waterfall, a stunning “wedding cake” waterfall with seven cascades. We finish at Önundarfjörður Pier, where you can relax by the fjord before heading up Bolafjall Mountain for panoramic views. We end the day in Ísafjörður, a charming town surrounded by mountains, perfect for a leisurely evening stroll.

Rauðisandur - Unique Sands of Westfjords

As the day begins, we head out to explore Rauðisandur Beach, our first stop. After traveling along gravel paths carved into mountainsides, we arrive at this 10-kilometer stretch of beach known for its multicolored sands. Unlike Iceland’s usual black volcanic beaches, Rauðisandur features red and golden tones, a result of the Westfjords’ lack of volcanic activity. Recognized by Lonely Planet, this beach offers a striking contrast to typical Icelandic landscapes. It’s the perfect place to take a peaceful walk along the shores, soaking in the stunning scenery and enjoying the quiet beauty of this unique spot.

Find Your Peace At The Fossfjörður Waterfall

As we continue our journey through the Westfjords, we travel from Rauðisandur along winding roads to reach Fossfjörður Waterfall. Nestled within a fjord, this cascade offers a peaceful and serene sight, tucked away in the rugged beauty of the Westfjords. The route takes us through varied landscapes, with each turn revealing new vistas of Iceland’s dramatic terrain. Fossfjörður Waterfall is a hidden gem, providing a perfect spot to pause, take in the fresh air, and appreciate the untouched natural wonders of this remote region. It’s a tranquil moment to enjoy the simplicity and raw beauty of Iceland.

“A-House” - A Timeless Attraction Of Westfjords

As we explore the region, we stumble upon an abandoned farmhouse, a quiet reminder of the Westfjords’ past. Once a bustling area, the region saw many people move away due to its remote and harsh living conditions. This farmhouse remains as a piece of that history, sparking curiosity among visitors and photographers. Known as the Instagram icon “A-House,” it stands as a symbol of the resilience and determination of those who once called this rugged landscape home. Its picturesque location, surrounded by dramatic scenery, offers a glimpse into the tough yet beautiful life that once existed here.

Experience The Raw Power Of Dynjandi

The day’s highlight is next with Dynjandi, often called the “wedding cake waterfall.” Known locally as “The Thunderer,” this stunning waterfall drops over 100 meters in a series of seven cascades, creating a breathtaking sight. You can hike up to the top for a closer look, though waterproofs are a must as the mist from the falls can soak you. Standing by the waterfall, you can also take in sweeping views across the Westfjords. Dynjandi is an unforgettable experience, offering a powerful connection to Iceland’s wild and raw natural beauty. It’s the perfect spot to pause and appreciate the force of nature.

Rest And Reflect Surrounded By Fjords And Dunes

Arriving at Önundarfjörður Pier, you’re greeted by stunning views of the fjord, where the calm waters perfectly reflect the surrounding mountains and sky. This pier is a favorite for photographers and nature lovers, offering an excellent vantage point to appreciate the unique charm of the Westfjords. Nearby, you’ll find walking trails that wind through the landscape, providing more opportunities to immerse yourself in the untouched beauty of the region.

Capture Panoramic Views From Bolafjall

At the end of the day, we’ll take you up to the top of Bolafjall Mountain, where the Sky Walk platform awaits. From here, you’ll get a breathtaking view over the Hornstrandir Peninsula, a region once home to isolated communities before being evacuated in the 1950s due to harsh living conditions. You’ll also spot old NATO radars, adding a touch of history to the stunning scenery. This spot offers a unique blend of nature and history, making it a memorable highlight of your Westfjords adventure.

Nestled beneath towering mountains at the end of Skutulsfjörður, this charming town offers a peaceful retreat. With its lively streets filled with eateries, cafes, and bakeries, you’ll have plenty of spots to relax and enjoy local flavours. The nearly endless summer daylight is perfect for leisurely walks, taking in the stunning views and coastal beauty. It’s a great place to unwind, surrounded by historic timber and iron-clad buildings that tell stories of the town’s rich maritime past.

This village is a great place to immerse yourself in traditional Icelandic fishing culture, with its reconstructed fishing huts offering a glimpse into the past. You’ll have the chance to explore the old structures, learn about the tools and techniques once used by local fishermen, and enjoy views of the stunning Westfjords landscape.

From here, you can enjoy stunning views of the fjords and the vast ocean. The lighthouse is a peaceful spot, perfect for soaking in the natural beauty of the Westfjords. It also serves as a reminder of the area’s rich maritime history, making it a memorable and scenic stop during your journey.

Looking north, you’ll catch a glimpse of the wildlife preserve of Hornstrandir and the Arctic Ocean beyond. The road follows the rugged coastline, with stunning vistas of fjords, towering mountains, and glaciers in all directions. We’ll stop at the best viewpoints to take it all in, depending on the day’s visibility.

Meet Iceland's Native Land Mammal

Along the “Seven Fjords Road,” where Arctic foxes often roam by the roadside, we stop at the Arctic Fox Center. This unique center is dedicated to studying and protecting Iceland’s only native land mammal. Here, you’ll learn about the lives of these elusive creatures and the conservation efforts aimed at preserving their habitat. The center offers fascinating insights into the natural history of Arctic foxes and the challenges they face in the wild, making it an enriching stop for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.

Wildlife Adventures in Westfjords

Hvítanes is a fantastic spot for seal watching in the Westfjords, making it a perfect place to observe these playful creatures in their natural habitat. You can often see them lounging on the rocks or swimming in the water, adding a charming touch to the scenery. While whale sightings are less frequent, the chance to spot one adds an extra thrill to your wildlife adventure. Beyond the animals, Hvítanes also has remnants of old buildings and coastal walking paths, giving you a chance to explore both the natural beauty and history of this captivating area.

Gervidalsá - Experience The Road's Highlights

Day 4 | Silver Circle Exploration with Icelandic horses & Canyon Baths

Route
Gallery

Start your day in Bifröst, a place rich in Icelandic myth, where you can visit Glanni Waterfall—a peaceful spot tied to tales of elves. The waterfall flows over ancient lava fields, offering beautiful views of Grabrok Craters from above.

Next, we head to Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring, gushing 180 liters of boiling water per second. After feeling the heat, we visit Reykholt, home to Snorralaug, a historic hot spring used since the 12th century.

We then explore Hraunfossar, a stunning series of waterfalls flowing over lava, before heading to Barnafoss—a waterfall with a tragic past. The day ends with a visit to Húsafell, where you can relax at the Húsafell Canyon Baths, a secluded hotpot in a beautiful canyon, the perfect end to your adventure.

Bifröst - Land of Myths & Elves

Eager to test your luck at spotting elves? Nestled in Bifröst, a place steeped in legend, Glanni Waterfall enchants visitors with its peaceful beauty. This magical spot is rich in Icelandic folklore, where elves are believed to dwell in the area. Located on the Nordura River, the waterfall cascades gracefully over several tiers, flowing through ancient lava fields known as Grábrókarhraun. From here, you can also admire the views of the Grábrók craters, which you explored the day before, rising dramatically above the landscape, adding to the sense of wonder in this mythical location.

Deildartunguhver - Most Powerful in Europe

Deildartunguhver is Europe’s most powerful hot spring, gushing over 180 liters of boiling water every second. This incredible spring provides hot water to much of Western Iceland, including Akranes, its largest city, located 64 km away. Stand in awe before the bubbling, steaming water, surrounded by colorful rocks tinged with minerals like sulfur, which adds a distinctive scent to the air. The sheer power of nature is evident as you walk along boardwalks, enveloped in clouds of vapor, or enjoy the view from a nearby platform—truly a remarkable experience in Iceland’s geothermal landscape.

Sturlureykir - Icelandic Hors Farm

Our next stop is Sturlureykir farm, a cozy family-run horse farm surrounded by scenic countryside. You’ll get to meet the calm and curious Icelandic horses, learn about their story, and even give them a pat. The farm is also known for its natural hot spring, which has powered the home for over a century and bakes traditional rúgbrauð, Iceland’s famous geothermal bread, served warm with coffee.

Reykholt - History of Thermal Dips

Next, we visit Reykholt, a key site in Icelandic history, famous for its connection to Snorri Sturluson, the renowned poet and chieftain. The Snorralaug hot spring, also known as Snorri’s Pool, has been used by locals since the 12th century, making it a historic spot for bathing in West Iceland. This ancient pool played a role in inspiring the Canyon Baths, which you’ll experience later in the tour! Snorralaug is now a protected archaeological site, and while you’re here, don’t miss the traditional timber church that adds to the area’s charm and historical significance.

Hraunfossar - A Water from Lava?

A short journey inland brings us to Hraunfossar, a stunning series of waterfalls that stretch over hundreds of yards across the Hallmundarhraun lava field. Known as the “Lava Waterfalls,” Hraunfossar is a broad plateau waterfall, not a high cascade, but still incredibly impressive. Several viewing platforms give you different perspectives of the falls, where glacial meltwater from Langjökull glacier tumbles down jagged volcanic cliffs into the Hvítá River below. The sight of countless waterfalls flowing over the lava field is truly spectacular, offering an unforgettable display of nature’s power and beauty.

Barnafoss - Fabled Waters

Barnafoss, or the “Waterfall of the Children,” is a striking rapid flowing through a narrow rock gorge. The waterfall’s name comes from a tragic story: a natural stone arch once spanned the river, serving as a bridge. However, two children from a nearby farm fell to their deaths while attempting to cross. Overcome with grief, their mother ordered the destruction of the bridge to prevent any other parent from suffering the same loss. Today, Barnafoss is not only a powerful display of nature but also a poignant reminder of this heart-breaking history.

After spending a little time looking around Husafell, you’ll then jump into another bus, and we’ll continue our journey further inland along scenic mountain paths.

Langifoss - Seen By Few

On our route, we’ll make a special stop to see Langifoss, a stunning two-tiered waterfall cascading into the Deildargil Canyon, a hidden gem in West Iceland. This waterfall is not widely known and doesn’t often appear on maps or social media, giving you the feeling of discovering something truly exclusive. We’ll guide you to this impressive sight, where you can enjoy the natural beauty from a conveniently placed viewing platform. It’s a peaceful, less-traveled spot, perfect for those looking to experience Iceland’s raw and unspoiled landscapes.

Húsafell Canyon Baths - Relax In The Old Ways

As the final stop on our four-day off-the-beaten-path tour, we arrive at the breathtaking Hringsgil Canyon. Here, we’ll disembark and take a short descent into the canyon, where you’ll find the exclusive Húsafell Canyon Baths. In this serene setting, you can immerse yourself in a traditional Icelandic hotpot, surrounded by dramatic landscapes.

The Canyon Baths offer a unique and intimate experience, with a limit of just nineteen visitors at a time, ensuring a more relaxed and peaceful atmosphere compared to other Icelandic hot springs. Picture yourself soaking in the healing waters while taking in the stunning views of the secluded canyon. After this rejuvenating experience, we’ll return to the beaten paths and head back to Reykjavík, where our unforgettable tour concludes.

Iceland’s weather is famously unpredictable, so you’ll need to prepare appropriately, whatever the time of year for your tour.

We’ve prepared a detailed guide for you to read, full of tips and tricks to help you know what to wear, what to bring and what to leave behind!

If you are two people traveling together and staying in the same room but paying separately, the single supplement fee is not applicable.

Simply add the name of your travel companion in the “special requirements” section when completing your booking.

For couples or groups traveling together, rooms will be assigned according to the number of people who have booked together.

All other meals are at your own expense.

As the tour continues around the country, you can grab lunch and dinner at each of the scheduled stops, and we’ll offer recommendations if you want them!

Yes. We monitor the weather and road conditions on the tour route to maximize your chance to see Iceland’s attractions at their best.

That means we may change the order or timing of the stops to take advantage of the weather (avoiding rain or snow showers where possible) and “golden hour” photo opportunities.

If we receive a weather alert from the Icelandic Meteorological Office or roads are closed by the local authorities, we must cancel tours for your safety.

Iceland’s weather is very changeable, meaning changes may occur quickly. If we have to cancel tours, we will send you an email notification immediately.

So please check your email inbox before heading out to the collection point, particularly if the weather looks bad in the city.

Sometimes the weather is worse outside the city, or vice versa!

On average, we will cover 200-300 kilometers each day, with four to five hours of driving.

We schedule our tours as evenly as possible, with driving distances between each stop varying from 45 minutes to a couple of hours.

Important: bringing children younger than the minimum age stated for each trip is not permitted; please check carefully before submitting your booking.
