Private Tour - Golden Circle & Kerid Volcanic Crater
See the wonders of Geyser and Gullfoss waterfall, stand on two continents at Thingvellir and walk around a volcano, all in one day!
What to expect
The Golden Circle is always right at the top of the list of Icelandic day trips, with one spectacular sight after another to be seen in one comfortable and convenient tour.
Thingvellir National Park, the Geysir geothermal area and the Gullfoss waterfall are all world-famous attractions, and the Golden Circle route takes you to each of these natural wonders in turn.
Our Golden Circle tour begins with a pickup in Reykjavik and we will soon approach the first stop, the stunning sights of Thingvellir National Park.
Thingvellir National Park
This is where the enormous gap between the European and American continental plates can clearly be seen, a reminder of the volcanic eruptions which gave birth to this country 20 million years ago. Here, you can stand with one foot on each continent at the same time!
Thingvellir is a national shrine for Icelanders, as her Parliament sat here from 930AD right up until the 18th century. Thingvellir was made a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2004.
Geysir & Haukadalur Geothermal Area
Next, we come to the Haukadalur Geothermal area and Geysir, the place that gives its name to spouting hot springs all over the world. Strokkur erupts every few minutes, sometimes as high as 30 meters into the sky. This is the place you’ll have seen in the guidebooks, and this is where you’ll get some of your best photos. Just make sure that you’re standing upwind when Strokkur explodes!
Gullfoss - The Golden Waterfall
We will then make our way to Gullfoss, which translates as the “golden waterfall”, but look out for Icelandic horses on the way. On clear days, the Langjokull glacier can be spotted in the distance.
Gullfoss is one of Iceland’s most popular natural wonders, a double drop waterfall with a cascade of more than 30 meters and generating sheets of spray as millions of gallons of water crash into a narrow ravine.
Gullfoss is a sensational sight, with huge rainbows seen here on sunny days. There are several viewing platforms too, with some closed in the winter months.
Kerid Volcanic Crater
We will then take you back towards Reykjavik by a different route, but not before our last sightseeing stop, the multi-colored volcano crater at Kerid. This is a bonus for you, as the “classic” Golden Circle usually just contains the three famous sights.
This 55m deep and 270m wide volcanic crater is beautifully streaked with red earth and green mosses, with a turquoise-blue mineral water lake to complete a fantastic spectacle.
On our way back to Reykjavík, you will see the rolling farmlands of the South Coast and the geothermal areas of Hveragerdi and the “Hot River” of Reykadalur, as well as the rugged lava fields of the Hellisheidi mountain pass.
This is a private experience, and the maximum number of passengers on each bus is 19, which we believe creates a more personal and enjoyable experience for all of our guests.
