Your South Coast Adventure begins with a scenic drive along Iceland’s famous Ring Road, giving you the perfect introduction to the wonderful Icelandic landscape.
After leaving Reykjavik, we quickly climb into the mountains past the geothermal powerplant at Hellisheidi and then swoop down towards Hveragerdi and the “Hot River” of Reykjadalur.
Soon, after passing the little towns of Selfoss, Hella and Hvolsvollur, your journey on the South Coast truly begins to be an adventure!
Crossing fast-flowing glacial rivers on single-track bridges, the mountains rise up again on the landward side, while on sunny days, you can spot the Westman Islands out to sea.
Our first stop of the tour will be at Seljalandsfoss – a towering waterfall that you’ll be able to see from far off in the distance as we speed towards it on Route 1. You’ll be able to experience it right up close as it crashes 60 meters down from the Eyfjallajokull volcano.
Remember to ask your guide about the colossal eruption here back in 2010, which made Iceland famous all around the world! Nearby, there is another secret waterfall called Gljufrabui, which most visitors miss out on. We’ll tell you where to find it!
The next stage of our tour brings us to Skogafoss, which is one of the most iconic waterfalls in the world. Featured in “Game of Thrones”, it is often covered in rainbows because the 60-meter cascade of water produces a lot of spray! Skogafoss is one of the most popular sights in the country and you can climb to the top of the falls to see it from there too.
Iceland is well-known for her glaciers too, so we will take you to see Solheimajokull. Iceland is well-known for her glaciers too, so we will take you to see Solheimajokull. Now it’s time to visit the world-famous black sand beach at Reynisfjara, where you’ll see the “Reynisdrangar” rocks tower dramatically just offshore, with puffins swooping down in the summer from the basalt cliffs.
We will stop by the sea arches of Dyrholaey.
After an amazing day of exploration and adventure, we make it easy for you to share your fabulous photos with our free onboard WiFi.
