You’ll be picked up in Reykjavík and swept off west to the historic area of Borgarfjorður – the region that can be regarded as the setting for most of the Icelandic sagas. First, you’ll visit Grabrok Volcanic Craters. Just few meters away from the famous Ring Road there are three craters – Stora (Big) Grabrok, Grabrokarfell and Litla (Small) Grabrok that formed approximately 3.400 years ago during massive eruption shaping the landscape around. Solid, wooden stairs lead up to the top of Stora Grabrok from where you can admire other colorful craters, lava fields and lake Hredavatn.

Next you will see the great Hraunfossar, a series of waterfalls spread at a distance of around 900 m. The waters flow out of the Hallmundarhraun, a lava field that was formed around 1000 years ago during a massive eruption of volcano lying under a Langjökull glacier. Hraunfossar are very often called “Lava Waterfalls”. Rivulets streaming from the lava field create one of the most breath-taking views in Iceland. Just few meters away you will find another interesting waterfall – Barnafoss. Its name, “the waterfall of the children,” comes from an accident tale which is said to have taken place here in a previous century. There was a natural stone bridge over the waterfall, and two children from a nearby farm fell to their deaths crossing the river on the bridge. Afterwards, the grief-stricken mother had the bridge destroyed.

The highlight of the tour is a visit to a colorful Vidgelmir Lava Cave. Just shy of 1600 meters the cave features amazing colors and lava formations that lurk in the depths of the earth. During this 1,5 hour long expedition you will have a chance to see one of the largest lava caves in Iceland with its stunning lava stalactites and stalagmites. The area surrounding the entrance to the cave will allow you to realize how powerful eruptions of volcano can be.

Just before the relaxing final of this tour you will pass by Reykholt historic site. There you can learn a bit about history of Iceland and see Snorralaug – small hot spring used by local people since 12th century. This place was first mentioned in medieval writings of Snorri Sturluson -the famous Icelandic poet and politician who used to bath there. In present days Snorralaug is just the archaeological site, but you can still take an advantage of taking a warm bath in rich in minerals geothermal waters that boil underneath the ground in Borgarfjordur area - last but not least on the agenda for you is a visit to Krauma, the new natural geothermal baths & spa next to Deildartunguhver – the most powerful hot spring in Europe. Hot spring provides 180 liters pr second of 100@C hot water! There you can admire power of mother nature while walking around bubbling springs or from the viewing platform.

At Krauma Geothermal SPA you can enjoy great facilities including five relaxing geothermal baths, a cold tub, and two saunas. Admission fee is included in the price! A perfect way to end a great tour.

Don’t miss this opportunity to see the most stunning landscapes in Western Iceland! Check the booking availability above by selecting your preferred travel date.

The maximum number of passengers on the tour are 19 which we believe creates a more personal and enjoyable experience for our guests.

Energetic Driver (Thor) Made This 10x better

Lovely experience going through the lava cave, amazing view of inside a volcano crater. Spa was a great treat at the end of the trip, it was better than the lagoon as it was less crowded but the reception has fewer drink options. Driver acted as a private tour guide and made the experience a lot better as he didn't just drop us at the location and let us do our own thing but came with us most of the journey guiding us, he stayed and waited for us in the hot springs spa (1hr 30mins) very dedicated driver who's mean priority was our comfort and wellbeing

Great tour!

We highly recommend this tour! The tour guide was friendly and informative. We enjoyed the hike to the top of the volcano crater, the waterfalls are beautiful, and we loved the lava cave (the guide was funny and entertaining). We also loved the Krauma spa (not as touristy as the Blue Lagoon).

The local tour company Nice Travel went above and beyond my expectations.

My flight was exceptionally late so I missed my pick up time. They made other arrangements to get me to a locaation to meet the tour bus enroute to the second stop of the tour. I can't say enough good things about Nice Travel and their awesome staff. What a great way to make up for a bad airline experience and to start off my vacation in Iceland

Amazing Tour

This was our 2nd tour with Nice Travel. Small group tours is the best! The tour was without doubt a smashing success - starting with a very friendly tour guide, Willy. There are just 3 stops hence had enough time for each. The crater hike was a blast (didn’t imagine I can handle the climb) - stair design made it easy to climb. The lava cave was super with Geologist Ellie! Enlightening and very easy walk with a lot of areas you can appreciate. The Krauma spa was great (per others who tried) - chickened out last minute. Had a good delicious dinner though! Safely home earlier than expected!

Fantastic tour

This is our 3rd trip to Iceland and this was one of our favorite tours. We saw volcanoes, huge waterfalls, went deep into a lava cave and finished with a geothermal spa! A perfect ending to the day. The small group was so much better then the big bus tours. Our tour guide was Icelandic and so knowledgeable and friendly. We would highly recommend this tour

Perfect day

I just showed up at the appointed time and place, and they did everything for me! I was brought by a friendly and knowledgeable guide (Thor) to some of the most stunningly jaw dropping natural sites I've ever seen. Minimal exertion, plenty of information (but not too much), good balance of activity and relaxation. If you're only in Iceland for one or two days, this is the way to do it. I took the Golden Circle tour also, and while it was amazing, I liked this one better!

Wonderful day

Our guide Einar received the applause of the small group (14 people) at the end of the day. As we crossed unforgettable landscapes and lost the sens of time, we listened stories about the past&peesent and learned about History, Fauna & Flora, people, our Earth planet etc. Additionally to the planned stops at the famous places, our guide made a couple of stops more just some minutes to see a secret waterfall, touch some islandic horses or just buy some coffee. We had a wonderful day, Takk!

Scenes a plenty

This was a wonderful trip around Iceland. We got to see the most beautiful waterfall, fascinating lava caves and we relaxed in a high end thermal spa. What I would say, is that we stopped to see the 3 craters, now the tour guide said it was an easy walk up and down this is a lie, maybe to an Icelander it is but in reality the climb is precarious, terrifying and I wish I'd written a will before I started. That said the views are epic so probs would do again.

Amazing Trip and Awesome Guide

From the start, I knew this was going to be a great trip. Thor was an amazing guide and was very engaging and fun. This was an excellent mix of history, nature and relaxation. The waterfalls are absolutely stunning and the Spa was great. I even stopped in the cafe for an excellent Swiss Mocha. The lava cave was exhilarating, educational and humorous. Highly recommend you put this one on the "must do" list.

Excellent experience

My favorite parts were the Lava cave, where the guide tells you about the geology of the rock formations and the krauma spa, with the hot water spring. It is a little catered to tourists, but there is a reason people like it so much. It's very clean, and you bathe outside where there's a great view. I sat with a beer and found myself staring out for at least half an hour. It was serene.

A real great experiece

I have already been in caves and also in a lava tunnel but this is indeed impressive! We have been so lucky to be the only ones on the tour, being able to ask as many questions and use our tripods for pictures. The cave is stunning. Additionally to the "normal" stalactites and stalagmites you will find ice stalagmites (certain time of the year: best time in Feb, Mar, Apr) You can accesss about 600m of the cave on a very good floor or a wooden system build into the cave. The colours are magnificent. Our guide Marie was so helpful with answers and side information and made the 1 1/2 tour a real super experience.

I absolutely loved Nice Travel team. They are friendly, punctual, professional and very organized people. Their buses are neatly maintained. Only thing is I found their Snaefellsness package a bit expensive than BusTravel Iceland.

Our trip was full of humour and great fun thanks to micheal!

It is not a trip to be disappointed with. The waterfalls were beautiful our tour guide had a fantastic sense of humour. It was beautiful to hear the stories behind everything. It may seem like a long day but in actual fact you don't realise where the time gone. At the end of the day we had the lovely spa experience: the water was warm but the air was turning the water in our hair to ice. It is an experience that I will treasure for the rest of my life.

A really

We took this tour on the 23rd of January 2019. This being a rather new tour, we didn't know what to expect. Turned out to be a great tour, we had such a nice time. Our tour guide Thor was knowledgeable and fun, talking about the Icelandic sagas and music and literature. Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls look wonderful in the winter with a coat of snow and ice. The highlight of this tour was a visit to the stunning Viðgelmir Lava Cave which was a first time my boyfriend and I visited one, Jonathan (I think that was his name) took us on a 1,5 hour tour inside it and gave a very detailed lecture about lava, volcanoes and caves. At the end of the tour we went to the Krauma geothermal baths & spa, at a perfect time as the sun was setting. Spa is not something I would usually do, but this was a great experience, such a wonderful place with a great view of the mountains and not very touristic so our group of 8 people was there basically alone. Just bring your towel and a swimming suit of course (so you don't have to rent it because they aren't included in the addmision ticket and you can save some money). I definitely recommend taking this tour.

Not to be missed!

I took this tour with my girlfriend on the 23rd of January 2019. Our tour guide for the day was Thor, and he was excellent! He was very interesting, funny and intelligent. He gave us plenty of information and funny stories during the tour and even indulged us with some Icelandic folk singing! This tour allows a maximum of 19 people and there were probably around 12 on this day. I really liked that; it felt very friendly, more like taking a tour with some friends rather than sitting on a huge bus full of people. This is apparently a new tour for Nice Travel, but I think they've chosen it really well. The day felt full of interesting things without being too tiring, so it was perfect in my opinion. We first stopped off in the Reykholt area where we were able to take some nice photos. I was too busy doing this in fact and I missed the Snorralaug hot spring (my fault), so make sure not to do the same if you go! Following that we stopped at the Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls which were really beautiful. The paths were a little slippery but Thor had plenty of crampons for people who wanted them. He also told us the legend of the Barnafoss waterfall and we had plenty of time to walk and take photos. Afterwards we went to visit the Viđgelmir lava cave, a truly amazing experience! We were given a tour of the lava tube by a geologist (unfortunately I can't remember his name) who was very witty and intelligent. It was fascinating to get an expert's description of the rock formations and general information about volcanoes, caves, etc. He also taught us the Icelandic titles for certain rock formations, which were very "creative" :) Finally, to finish the tour, we stopped at the newly opened Krauma spa where we spent 2 hours relaxing in their selection of geothermal pools. At this time the sun was just setting, so it was wonderful sitting in 40-degree water with snow all around watching the sun set over the mountains! The spa is quite small which was really nice, it felt like we had it just to ourselves. In conclusion, I highly recommend this tour! I took another tour with Nice Travel and I liked that too. From my experience Nice Travel is a really "nice" tour company and I highly recommend them.
