Explore the Western part of Iceland. Visit Grabrok Volcanic Craters, Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls as well as the Deildartunguhver – the most powerful hot spring in Europe where you will bath in Krauma Geothermal SPA powered by its waters. The highlight of this tour is a visit inside the stunning Vidgelmir Lava Cave. All admissions included in the price.
You’ll be picked up in Reykjavík and swept off west to the historic area of Borgarfjorður – the region that can be regarded as the setting for most of the Icelandic sagas. First, you’ll visit Grabrok Volcanic Craters. Just few meters away from the famous Ring Road there are three craters – Stora (Big) Grabrok, Grabrokarfell and Litla (Small) Grabrok that formed approximately 3.400 years ago during massive eruption shaping the landscape around. Solid, wooden stairs lead up to the top of Stora Grabrok from where you can admire other colorful craters, lava fields and lake Hredavatn.
Next you will see the great Hraunfossar, a series of waterfalls spread at a distance of around 900 m. The waters flow out of the Hallmundarhraun, a lava field that was formed around 1000 years ago during a massive eruption of volcano lying under a Langjökull glacier. Hraunfossar are very often called “Lava Waterfalls”. Rivulets streaming from the lava field create one of the most breath-taking views in Iceland. Just few meters away you will find another interesting waterfall – Barnafoss. Its name, “the waterfall of the children,” comes from an accident tale which is said to have taken place here in a previous century. There was a natural stone bridge over the waterfall, and two children from a nearby farm fell to their deaths crossing the river on the bridge. Afterwards, the grief-stricken mother had the bridge destroyed.
The highlight of the tour is a visit to a colorful Vidgelmir Lava Cave. Just shy of 1600 meters the cave features amazing colors and lava formations that lurk in the depths of the earth. During this 1,5 hour long expedition you will have a chance to see one of the largest lava caves in Iceland with its stunning lava stalactites and stalagmites. The area surrounding the entrance to the cave will allow you to realize how powerful eruptions of volcano can be.
Just before the relaxing final of this tour you will pass by Reykholt historic site. There you can learn a bit about history of Iceland and see Snorralaug – small hot spring used by local people since 12th century. This place was first mentioned in medieval writings of Snorri Sturluson -the famous Icelandic poet and politician who used to bath there. In present days Snorralaug is just the archaeological site, but you can still take an advantage of taking a warm bath in rich in minerals geothermal waters that boil underneath the ground in Borgarfjordur area - last but not least on the agenda for you is a visit to Krauma, the new natural geothermal baths & spa next to Deildartunguhver – the most powerful hot spring in Europe. Hot spring provides 180 liters pr second of 100@C hot water! There you can admire power of mother nature while walking around bubbling springs or from the viewing platform.
At Krauma Geothermal SPA you can enjoy great facilities including five relaxing geothermal baths, a cold tub, and two saunas. Admission fee is included in the price! A perfect way to end a great tour.

The Guide was very friendly and funny. We have good Informations become and the drive was good. The Lava Cave was amazing and the Tour with the Cave Guide was very good, for us was the First Cave and it was so amazing. Thank you all for the great Time and amazing Moments.
Thank you Thor for a wonderful day. Informative, fun, and good driving in windy conditions! The tour Itinerary offered Lots of variety, and showing so much of this beautiful country.
Everything from the guide to the actual trip itself ! Was amazing had the best time on this island because of that trip! I will surely recommend this company when I go back home !
I highly recommend any of Nice Travel’s tour options. This adventure was perfectly executed by a friendly, professional, and informative guide. My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this experience. We also booked this operator’s Golden Circle tour, which was also everything it promised and paired nicely with this tour. ????
The lave cave is not to be missed. Absolutely fascinating .The Krauma Spa is beautiful and very relaxing after a day of touring. Our guide was excellent: punctual, good attention to detail, and gave good explanations. The restaurant we stopped for lunch had great food. Highly recommended.
What a great day! Starting with a short crater hike, which even on a cloudy, windy cold day, the views were phenomenal! Next up we’re Hraunfossar and Barnafoss, a series of waterfalls churning through a small canyon. The lava caves were fascinating and our guide through them was very knowledgeable and made the tour fascinating. Ending at Krauma spa, the perfect way to warm up and relax before heading back to Reykjavik. Our guide was wonderful! Thanks for a great day.
Thoroughly enjoyed this trip. The climb to the crater was fun with great views, the waterfalls were spectacular, the lave tube was really interesting and the visit to krauma was pretty special. Our tour guide Thor was brilliant, informative and really funny. Overall the day was a massive success and I'd recommend it to anyone.
Detail explanation about each location we visit, mentioned itinirary ahead of time and get us remainders. No excesive unnecessary stops. The guide was fantastic and always willing to help.
The tour guide was very informative and friendly. The bus was comfortable and clean. The entire day was wll planned with sufficient time to explore. Highly recommended!
This was an excellent family tour, allowing us to jump quickly from sight to sight, followed by a relaxing finish at the hot springs. Just 9 on the tour so it felt small. Our guide Addi was very affable, helpful, and informative. Would definitely recommend this tour to any traveling families...
Krauma Spa was a great way to end such an active day full of sight seeing!
Excellent tour! The places we went are not that famous as Golden Circle but it’s definitely worth to go! And we love our tour guide Thor, he is funny and nice, helpful and knowledgable, he made us feel not just like a tour but a friend to explore and experience together. Will surely recommend to my friends of Nice Travel!
Well, it was spectacular and it was Guy Fawkes Day. Great tour with spectacular sights and Gustav the Guide was excellent. Ended with a great meal, a barn full of animals, and quite unexpectedly, the Northern Lights
Excellent tour. Informative, great caring tour guides. Plenty if pit stops
I want to thank Nice Travel for a perfect day. Volcanic crater, waterfalls, lava tunnel and ending the day in a geothermal spa is amazing. I highly recommend this trip.
Based on my experience last year to the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon with NiceTravel, I selected NiceTravel for three of my six tours this year. Arni was the driver/guide for this tour to the Lava Cave…Waterfalls. He was on-time for pick-up and very professional and pleasant while sharing insight on the tour sites we visited. It was raining pretty hard when we got to the Volcanic Craters. However, when we arrived at Hraunfossar and Barnafoss, the rain magically lifted to allow full enjoyment of the waterfalls. The views were amazing and mind-blowing. Arni allowed us plenty of time to really experience the diversity between the two very different waterfalls. After going down the first three sets of wood stairs, I decided to pass on going further into the Lava Cave since I was unsure whether I was claustrophobic. So I returned to mini-bus and took photos of the surrounding hills and area. Next came the Krauma Spa (and restaurant)—magnificent—both the spa and the artic char meal. This tour was extremely satisfying to finally see and experience Hraunfossar. I had a tour booked last year with a different company which ended up canceling the the tour the night before. I knew I could count on NiceTravel. I have now taken four of their tours between last year and this year and I have thoroughly enjoyed them all. Each driver/guide had unique personalities but all were outstanding. When I was planning my trip I first identified the sites I wanted to visit and then checked to see which sites NiceTravel went to. I'm looking forward to my next trip to Iceland and touring with NiceTravel.
I would definitely recommend this tour company to anyone that wants to visit Iceland! Our tour guide Eddie was very professional, informative and NICE. Eddie made our tour feel like it was a private tour. Do not hesitate to take this company perfect day. Liat
I would definitely recommend this tour company to anyone that wants to visit Iceland! Our tour guide Thor was very informative, energetic, funny and NICE. Thor made our tour feel like it was personalised which was great! We also did not feel rushed at any of the stops. The waterfalls and lava cave were spectacular and the spa was a relaxing experience. Thank you Thor for making our tour the best one. We will be back!
We really enjoyed this tour and our tour guide. It included a variety of places for our whole group to enjoy. We had plenty of time at each location and never felt rushed.
Fabulous day the waterfalls and lava caves were fantastic our guide was very informative and he stopped at 2 extra places for us to make the most of the day. The spa was very different to the blue lagoon but it was lovely to sit in the water overlooking the scenery. The weather was amazing too which just made for a great day. Would recommend Nice travel
The lava tube is extremely interesting. The waterfalls are spectacular. The hot springs are steamy. The Krauma Spa wasn’t that great. The guide/driver was delightful. East pick up and drop off in Reykjavik.
Lovely experience going through the lava cave, amazing view of inside a volcano crater. Spa was a great treat at the end of the trip, it was better than the lagoon as it was less crowded but the reception has fewer drink options. Driver acted as a private tour guide and made the experience a lot better as he didn't just drop us at the location and let us do our own thing but came with us most of the journey guiding us, he stayed and waited for us in the hot springs spa (1hr 30mins) very dedicated driver who's mean priority was our comfort and wellbeing
We highly recommend this tour! The tour guide was friendly and informative. We enjoyed the hike to the top of the volcano crater, the waterfalls are beautiful, and we loved the lava cave (the guide was funny and entertaining). We also loved the Krauma spa (not as touristy as the Blue Lagoon).
My flight was exceptionally late so I missed my pick up time. They made other arrangements to get me to a locaation to meet the tour bus enroute to the second stop of the tour. I can't say enough good things about Nice Travel and their awesome staff. What a great way to make up for a bad airline experience and to start off my vacation in Iceland
This was our 2nd tour with Nice Travel. Small group tours is the best! The tour was without doubt a smashing success - starting with a very friendly tour guide, Willy. There are just 3 stops hence had enough time for each. The crater hike was a blast (didn’t imagine I can handle the climb) - stair design made it easy to climb. The lava cave was super with Geologist Ellie! Enlightening and very easy walk with a lot of areas you can appreciate. The Krauma spa was great (per others who tried) - chickened out last minute. Had a good delicious dinner though! Safely home earlier than expected!
This is our 3rd trip to Iceland and this was one of our favorite tours. We saw volcanoes, huge waterfalls, went deep into a lava cave and finished with a geothermal spa! A perfect ending to the day. The small group was so much better then the big bus tours. Our tour guide was Icelandic and so knowledgeable and friendly. We would highly recommend this tour
I just showed up at the appointed time and place, and they did everything for me! I was brought by a friendly and knowledgeable guide (Thor) to some of the most stunningly jaw dropping natural sites I've ever seen. Minimal exertion, plenty of information (but not too much), good balance of activity and relaxation. If you're only in Iceland for one or two days, this is the way to do it. I took the Golden Circle tour also, and while it was amazing, I liked this one better!
Flotte fosser, en fantastisk lavagrotte med utrolige formasjoner og farger, og et meget avslapende opphold i Krauma Natural Geothermal Spa. Flott tur. Anbefales!
Very pleasant trip with relaxation in Krauma spa. Interesting adventure in a lava cave with a great funny guide Maple.
Our guide Einar received the applause of the small group (14 people) at the end of the day. As we crossed unforgettable landscapes and lost the sens of time, we listened stories about the past&peesent and learned about History, Fauna & Flora, people, our Earth planet etc. Additionally to the planned stops at the famous places, our guide made a couple of stops more just some minutes to see a secret waterfall, touch some islandic horses or just buy some coffee. We had a wonderful day, Takk!
Arni was a wonderful driver and guide!
Guiseppe is a pleasund Guide very funny and experienced Very helpful and the tour was great, we had luck it was really nice and sunny weather to climb the volcano. The krauma term was amazing and hot.. really recommend this tour with guiseppe
This was a wonderful trip around Iceland. We got to see the most beautiful waterfall, fascinating lava caves and we relaxed in a high end thermal spa. What I would say, is that we stopped to see the 3 craters, now the tour guide said it was an easy walk up and down this is a lie, maybe to an Icelander it is but in reality the climb is precarious, terrifying and I wish I'd written a will before I started. That said the views are epic so probs would do again.
From the start, I knew this was going to be a great trip. Thor was an amazing guide and was very engaging and fun. This was an excellent mix of history, nature and relaxation. The waterfalls are absolutely stunning and the Spa was great. I even stopped in the cafe for an excellent Swiss Mocha. The lava cave was exhilarating, educational and humorous. Highly recommend you put this one on the "must do" list.
My favorite parts were the Lava cave, where the guide tells you about the geology of the rock formations and the krauma spa, with the hot water spring. It is a little catered to tourists, but there is a reason people like it so much. It's very clean, and you bathe outside where there's a great view. I sat with a beer and found myself staring out for at least half an hour. It was serene.
6-03-2019 was a special day for me spent in one of the most spectacular way. Thanks to Nicetravel and his carismatic guide! Thank you for that!
I have already been in caves and also in a lava tunnel but this is indeed impressive! We have been so lucky to be the only ones on the tour, being able to ask as many questions and use our tripods for pictures. The cave is stunning. Additionally to the "normal" stalactites and stalagmites you will find ice stalagmites (certain time of the year: best time in Feb, Mar, Apr) You can accesss about 600m of the cave on a very good floor or a wooden system build into the cave. The colours are magnificent. Our guide Marie was so helpful with answers and side information and made the 1 1/2 tour a real super experience.
A great trip. The information provided by the driver listens with great interest. The vast amount of knowledge remains in memory. A wonderful and atmospheric place - I recommend
I absolutely loved Nice Travel team. They are friendly, punctual, professional and very organized people. Their buses are neatly maintained. Only thing is I found their Snaefellsness package a bit expensive than BusTravel Iceland.
Amazing tour, with a great selection of activities and a very good guide!
It is not a trip to be disappointed with. The waterfalls were beautiful our tour guide had a fantastic sense of humour. It was beautiful to hear the stories behind everything. It may seem like a long day but in actual fact you don't realise where the time gone. At the end of the day we had the lovely spa experience: the water was warm but the air was turning the water in our hair to ice. It is an experience that I will treasure for the rest of my life.
We took this tour on the 23rd of January 2019. This being a rather new tour, we didn't know what to expect. Turned out to be a great tour, we had such a nice time. Our tour guide Thor was knowledgeable and fun, talking about the Icelandic sagas and music and literature. Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls look wonderful in the winter with a coat of snow and ice. The highlight of this tour was a visit to the stunning Viðgelmir Lava Cave which was a first time my boyfriend and I visited one, Jonathan (I think that was his name) took us on a 1,5 hour tour inside it and gave a very detailed lecture about lava, volcanoes and caves. At the end of the tour we went to the Krauma geothermal baths & spa, at a perfect time as the sun was setting. Spa is not something I would usually do, but this was a great experience, such a wonderful place with a great view of the mountains and not very touristic so our group of 8 people was there basically alone. Just bring your towel and a swimming suit of course (so you don't have to rent it because they aren't included in the addmision ticket and you can save some money). I definitely recommend taking this tour.
Great selection of activities, wonderful photos opportunities, lovely relaxing finish at spa. Guide very friendly and welcoming. Thank you
I took this tour with my girlfriend on the 23rd of January 2019. Our tour guide for the day was Thor, and he was excellent! He was very interesting, funny and intelligent. He gave us plenty of information and funny stories during the tour and even indulged us with some Icelandic folk singing! This tour allows a maximum of 19 people and there were probably around 12 on this day. I really liked that; it felt very friendly, more like taking a tour with some friends rather than sitting on a huge bus full of people. This is apparently a new tour for Nice Travel, but I think they've chosen it really well. The day felt full of interesting things without being too tiring, so it was perfect in my opinion. We first stopped off in the Reykholt area where we were able to take some nice photos. I was too busy doing this in fact and I missed the Snorralaug hot spring (my fault), so make sure not to do the same if you go! Following that we stopped at the Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls which were really beautiful. The paths were a little slippery but Thor had plenty of crampons for people who wanted them. He also told us the legend of the Barnafoss waterfall and we had plenty of time to walk and take photos. Afterwards we went to visit the Viđgelmir lava cave, a truly amazing experience! We were given a tour of the lava tube by a geologist (unfortunately I can't remember his name) who was very witty and intelligent. It was fascinating to get an expert's description of the rock formations and general information about volcanoes, caves, etc. He also taught us the Icelandic titles for certain rock formations, which were very "creative" :) Finally, to finish the tour, we stopped at the newly opened Krauma spa where we spent 2 hours relaxing in their selection of geothermal pools. At this time the sun was just setting, so it was wonderful sitting in 40-degree water with snow all around watching the sun set over the mountains! The spa is quite small which was really nice, it felt like we had it just to ourselves. In conclusion, I highly recommend this tour! I took another tour with Nice Travel and I liked that too. From my experience Nice Travel is a really "nice" tour company and I highly recommend them.
